Description:
The lesson was a language arts lesson. The objective was to compose and participate in a dramatic presentation to express personal ideas with a particular focus on speaking clearly and using appropriate non-verbal techniques to enhance communication.
The outcome was a photo story.
The children wrote a story together. Then, they took turns taking pictures to illustrate their story. With my help, they imported their pictures into Photo Story 3 for Windows. They ordered the pictures, customized the motion in each picture, recorded a soundtrack for each picture, and chose a background music track.
Reflection:
This project was a great success. It will probably remain the high point of the year for most of my students. They enjoyed the freedom they were given to be creative. They worked remarkably well together. They showed great attention to detail and persistence. They were willing to do multiple takes until they delivered their lines just right.

A: learning
1: use and explain how technology enhances learning
a: use technology tools, including software and hardware, from a range of teacher-selected options to learn new content or reinforce skills
Description:
The lesson will be a science lesson next year. The objectives will be to teach, or reteach and reinforce, the scientific method, to explain what a science fair is, and to encourage students to participate in it.
At the time of the science fair, I took pictures of my participating students' projects (pictures of the whole projects and of details) as well as pictures of the students themselves. I imported them into Photo Story 3 and ordered them to show the various parts of the scientific method. I also interviewed the students about their experiences working on their projects and presenting at the fair.
Reflection:
Photo Story 3 is a very versatile tool. I am hoping that the project will help make the scientific method more concrete, understandable, and exciting to my students as they hear their peers explain how they thought of a particular question or why they had to do several trials.
